Location: Great Ruaha River, Kidatu, Tanzania

The Great Ruaha Bridge over the Great Ruaha River is a part of the upgrading Mikumi – Ifakara Road to Bitumen standard major project.

The 132.7 length Bridge has three spans with a symmetric steel girders structure and consists of a mid-span of 50.9 meters long and two end spans of 40.9 meters long each. The superstructure has a composite cross section including concrete deck slab which is cast on top of three steel plate girders.

The construction method of the bridge is the Incremental Launching Method since there is a requirement to maintain the river open without interruption to the water flow along all construction phases. Two Assembly yards are being built on both banks of the river, behind the abutments, and the bridge now days is being launched by hydraulic pistons in several phases, from both sides towards the middle.
